Purpose of establishment It is established to improve the environmental welfare services and contribute to sustainable national development through developing & supporting environmental technologies, nurturing the environmental industry and spreading the environmental friendly life.

  • Establishment of the Korea Institute for Environment Science and Technology ('00.9)
  • Establishment of the Korea Eco-products Institute (KOECO) ('05.9)
  • Decision was made to merge KIEST and KOECO ('08.8, 2nd Plan to Advance Public Institutions)
  • Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute(KEITI) was founded ('09.4.8, quasi-governmental organization)
  • Environmental Industry cooperation centers launched in China, Indonesia and Vietnam ('11.6)
  • Launching an Environmental Industry Cooperation Center in Colombia ('13.9)
  • Launching an Environmental Industry Cooperation Center in Algeria ('13.12)
  • Enactment of the Environmental Industry and Technology Institute Act ('15.12)
  • Act on the Environmental Industry and Technology Institute ('16.12)
Function and role
  • Planning, evaluation and management of environmental technology development
  • Nurturing environmental businesses, supporting expansion to foreign markets
  • Operating the Eco-Labelling Program and promoting distribution of green products
  • Promotion of green and low-carbon management
  • Certification of new environmental research and verification of technology
  • Training specialist manpower on environmental industry/technology and creating job opportunities
  • Collection/utilization/teaching/publicizing of information on environmental industry/ technology
  • Supporting victims of humidifier salgyun and preventing damage to the environment, etc
